Type: Fey City Region: The Feywild Status: Active, politically tense

Overview

Silverthread is one of the oldest established cities in the Feywild — built within and around a grove of massive silver birch trees, their trunks wide as towers. The city rises in layers of platforms, buildings, and bridges that shimmer like spider silk in the shifting light.

It is not merely a city that happens to be alive. Silverthread is alive. The city has moods, opinions, and a long memory. Its sky reflects its emotional state. Its bridges shift when it is displeased. Residents don’t speak of the city as infrastructure — they speak of it as a neighbor.

Silverthread has always been a crossroads city — neutral ground between Seelie and Unseelie influence, a place where trade, diplomacy, and uneasy coexistence have flourished for centuries. That neutrality is currently under severe strain.

Currently: The sky shifts rapidly between gold and violet, settling nowhere. It hasn’t been stable in weeks. Residents find this deeply unsettling.

The Three Districts

Each district has its own character, its own market, and its own residential levels — platforms above the public areas where permanent residents live. The city is larger than it first appears. What you see from the main walkways is only part of it.

The Aureate — Seelie Quarter

Warm, bright, increasingly defensive. Gold and amber architecture, floral carvings, living wood details. Guards in golden armor. Home to the Seelie Archive, the Court of Petals, and the Gilt Market. The Silverflow Fountain sits at the center of the Aureate’s main platform — ancient, carved, and treated with quiet reverence by the residents who tend it.

The Umbral — Unseelie Quarter

Cool, elegant, quietly watchful. Deep purples, blacks, and silvers. Sharp angles and clean lines. Guards in violet armor. Home to the Unseelie Archive, the Dusk Chamber, and the Shadow Market. Residential platforms rise behind and above the public-facing district — the Umbral extends further back into the canopy than most visitors realize.

The Tangle — Neutral Ground

The most populated district, and the most nervous. The place where Seelie gold and Unseelie violet meet. Home to the Grand Pavilion, the Silver Bough Inn, the Woven Cup, and the Whisper Market. Everyone passes through whether they want to or not. Residential platforms sit above the market level — long-term Tangle residents tend to live higher up, away from the foot traffic below.

The Bridges

Four bridges connect Silverthread’s districts. There are whispers of a fifth that no one can quite account for.

  • The Goldwalk — city gate to the Aureate. Wide, lantern-lined, welcoming.
  • The Nightpath — city gate to the Umbral. Quieter. Violet lanterns.
  • The Silverspan — the Tangle to the Aureate. The longest bridge in the city; glows silver at night, takes on gold tones as you approach the Aureate end.
  • The Duskwalk — the Tangle to the Umbral. Roofed with woven branches, permanently dim.

Notable Landmarks

The Grand Pavilion — The city’s ceremonial heart, a vast open platform built around the base of the three largest silver birches. Currently being prepared for the Masquerade Ball.

The Accord Stone — A flat disc of pale grey stone at the center of the Pavilion stage. It predates any record the city holds. No one knows who placed it or why.

The Observatory — A platform near the top of the tallest tree, accessible by a long stair from the upper Tangle. Open to visitors, though most don’t make the climb.
